UGANDA SAFARIS – 9 DAYS UGANDA SAFARI

 Uganda safaris package has been designed to offer our clients an opportunity to track primates and carry out game drives in both Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park. The highlight of the Uganda safaris is the gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest National Park. This 9 day safari to Uganda takes you to Kaniyo Pabidi – a chimpanzee haven compared to none else in Uganda; the unequaled wildlife tour in Queen Elizabeth and the cultural tour to Lake Bunyonyi.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: Entebbe - Kampala

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our tour representative will welcome and transfer you to a hotel in Kampala. Dinner and overnight at Serena Kampala Hotel/ Hotel Africana/ Holiday Express Hotel (BB)

Day 2: Murchison Falls game drive
After a morning breakfast transfer to Murchison Falls national park en route paying a visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for white and black rhinos in the wild. Proceed to the top of falls – Murchison Falls. The 7 metre wide canyon creates a spectacular waterfall that ferociously plunges down to form mist and a rainbow across the mighty Nile River. Take an evening game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge (luxury)/ Sambiya River Lodge (mid-range)/Red Chilli Camp (budget) (FB)

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kaniyo
After breakfast, transfer to Kaniyo Pabidi for chimp trekking in the virgin forest, an eastern extension of the main Budongo rain forest. Carrying a picnic lunch is advisable. For birders Kaniyo Pabidi has a long list of specials such as shrike fly-catcher, Narina trogon, chestnut-winged starling, dwarf and pygmy kingfishers, little greenbul, grey apalis, chestnut wattle-eye, Puvel’s illadopsis and a great number of forest birds. The prehistoric rare shoebill by luck can be sighted in the wetlands on your way back to Paraa Safari Lodge. Day 4: Wildlife tour to Queen Elizabeth national park
Take your breakfast and transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park via Fort Portal for your lunch and arrive in QENP in the evening and enjoy a game drive in the park and birding around the Mweya peninsula. Dinner and overnight at Mweya safari Lodge/Institute of Ecology (FB)

Day 5:  Game drive in QENP
After a morning breakfast go for a game drive in search of savanna related animals. Wildlife on the north of Kazinga plains closest to the Mweya Lodge includes waterbuck, bushbuck, buffalo, warthog, the giant forest hog, leopard, and lions. The Kasenyi Sector is famous for the lions that prey on large populations of Uganda kob that reside in this area.
After lunch at the lodge go for a launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel. In the evening undertake a nature walk to the cluster of extinct volcanoes that lie north of Mweya Safari Lodge. The winding 27 km crater drive between the Main and Equator Gates provide awesome magnificent views into the depths of numerous craters, some filled by spectacular lakes overlooking the Rwenzori Mountains and across the rift valley floor. Day 6: Ishasha tree-climbing lions
After breakfast transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Rainforest via Ishasha Game Reserve for viewing tree-climbing lions. Proceed and arrive in Bwindi for your late lunch. In the evening visit the Batwa (Pygmy) community for traditional performances. For ornithologists, Bwindi is a birder’s haven. Bwindi supports 24 of 26 Albertine Rift Endemics resident in Uganda. Follow the Munyaga River trail for excellent birding. The spot at Munyaga Falls is a home to a variety of butterflies.  Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort/Buhoma Community Bandas (FB)

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast and briefing from the guides, embark on gorilla trekking inside the Bwindi forest. Gorilla trekking is the highlight of any Uganda Safari. In the afternoon you may choose to visit the local communities to have a study of lifestyle of the locals. Observe activities such as local beer brewing.

Day 8: Traversing the “Switzerland of Africa” – Kigezi Highlands
After breakfast, traverse the terraced landscape of Kigezi highlands commonly referred to as the Switzerland of Africa“. Proceed to Lake Bunyonyi. The scenic dotted tiny islands with contour farms can be accessed by a boat cruise. Enjoy a community walk at the island. You will be introduced to the Bakiga culture. For ornithologists Bunyonyi is an excellent birding ground – hence the name Bunyonyi which means the “place of little birds”. Dinner and overnight at Arcadia Cottages/Bunyonyi Overland Camp (FB)

Day 9: A return to Kampala
After break fast, transfer to Kampala by road via the Equator. You may make a stop-over in Mbarara for your lunch. Arrive in Kampala in the evening. Relax at Sheraton Swimming Pool. A body massage can be administered to you. Dinner and overnight at Sheraton Kampala Hotel or similar other

 Day 10: Reserved for departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may opt for an excursion out of the city, say undertaking an excursion to Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary or visit Sezibwa falls for birding or Mabamba Wetland for shoebill sighting.
