7 Days Kilimanjaro Mountain Hiking Safari
MACHAME ROUTE
To many climbers of Kilimanjaro Mountains, Machame route is the most beautiful. All the accommodations in this route are by camping in mobile tents. This route is more appropriate for adventurous hikers since it is a strenuous mountain trek. The Machame hike usually takes 6 days/5nights.
TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Our tour representative will transfer you from Arusha town to Moshi town – the gateway to Mt Kilimanjaro. Dinner and overnight at Base Hotel (Half Board)
Day 2: Commence the mountain hike from Machame Gate via the Machame route. This trek winds through a lush rainforest. Dinner and overnight at Machame Hut (3000m)
Day 2: Climb a steep ridge for 3 to 4 hours. Descend down a gorgeous river gorge before ascending gently up onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau. The Shira Plateau is characteristic of an older volcano. On a clear day the spectacular views are breathtaking. Overnight camping at Shira Hut (3,950m) in mountain tents
Day 4: Traverse the plateau with a few elevations for 5 – 6 hours. The view of the spectacular Barranco Valley is charming. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Hut in mountain tents (3,950m)
Day 5: Undertake a 6 – 8 hours mountain trek up the Barranco Wall, then traverse the scree and ridges to the Karanga Valley (4,100m) for lunch, before proceeding to Barafu Camp (4,600m). Dinner and overnight in mountain tents at Barafu Hut
Day 6: Wake up at around 23.30hrs, then enjoy some tea and ascend in the night across heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. The 8 hour Stella Point climb is highly challenging for many climbers. Stop for a short rest at Stella Point (5,685m) and enjoy the sunrise if weather permits. As you ascend to Uhuru Peak (5,896m) for 2 hours, you will go through snow. Here progress is slow due to less oxygen than at sea level. Nevertheless, Uhuru Peak offers a unique reward and normally a plethora of emotions. Watch the sunrise from the “rooftop” of Africa if weather permits! Relax a bit at Barafu Camp before descending to Mweka Camp at 3,100m. Dinner and an overnight at Mweka Camp
Day 7: Take your breakfast and descend across the lower heath section, then to the rainforest. Finally access Kibololoni Gate from you will be led to Base Hotel in Moshi for your dinner and an overnight.
