Kenya Safaris
Kenya tourism is highly developed. The original safari experience began in this country. This has made the country one of the prime safari destinations in the world. There is such a dazzling array of animals that viewing them in the national parks is one of main reasons for undertaking a safari in Kenya. Kenya’s national parks and reserves rate among the best in Africa with an incredible population of mammals and birds. All of the “Big Five” – the lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – cab be viewed in at least two of the major parks, and a huge variety of less famous but equally impressive animals. The birdlife is characterized with such impressive species such as the vulture, marabou stork and the ostrich. At water bodies you can spot flamingoes, pelicans, storks and enormous hornbills plus rare species such as turaco, weaverbird and sunbird.
Kenya’s flora is notably diverse because of the country’s range of physiographic regions. The vast plains of the south are characterized by distinctive flat-topped acacia trees, interspersed with the equally distinctive baobab trees, with their pendulous edible fruit. Without doubt it is the national parks that attract most tourists to Kenya – wildlife viewing is perhaps the best and most accessible in Africa. The most famous national park is the Masai Mara national park – with a very high concentration of savannah animals. Bird watchers are more interested in Kakamega Forest Reserve, Saiwa Swamp National Park, or the Rift Valley lakes.
Kenya is also rich in tribal heritage. Getting an experience of these fascinating cultures is a desire of many visitors to Kenya. The magnificent beaches are also significant to Kenya’s tourist industry. The marine parks offer excellent snorkeling and scubadiving. For the adventurous visitors, Mt Kenya, climbing the snowy altitude is an overwhelming experience. Other options include rock climbing, camel safaris, sailing troops, hiking, caving, ballooning over the savanna, trout fishing in the Central Highlands and deep fishing offshore.
