Marasa Africa, a leading tourism hospitality company in Uganda has acquired yet another lodge in Bwindi impenetrable national park.

This 12 room Lodge is the fourth lodge owned by Marasa Africa on addition to Chobe and Parra Safari lodges at the Murchisons Falls, Mweya Safari Lodge at the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Silverback Lodge, the largest property in Buhoma, comprises of 12 self-contained rooms overlooking nearby Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to Mountain Gorillas, other primates, including chimpanzees, 346 species of birds and 163 species of trees he adds.
The head of the operations of the marasa lodges said that the hotel is going to be refurbished to the higher standards. This, he said will give value for the money as the price will be slightly higher than it has been.

He added that to observe the gorillas, visitors need a seasoned guide and a permit secured well in advance, usually by the a Uganda tour operator.
Those who have experienced gorilla tracking in their natural habitat invariably say,It’s the thrill of a lifetime.
Bwindi became a Game Reserve as well as a Forest Reserve with its size increasing to 127 square miles. Then, thirty years later, as its attraction for gorilla tourism was recognized, Bwindi was elevated to a National Park. That same year habituation of two gorilla families began, and two years later the “Mubare” group was made available to tourists.Another family was habituated the following year. More groups have since been habituated, and some were even split into two to increase the number of families. There are currently 4 gorilla families in that sector.
Other activities in the area include hike in the park, meet the diminutive-sized indigenous peoples once called Pygmies through the Batwa Trail, tour the local Bwindi Community Hospital, and stroll through the community gardens.
Silverback Lodge is an hour’s flight from Entebbe. It can also be reached directly from Kampala by road on an entire day trip or from Kigali on a six-hour drive.

The government has outlined plans to improve the road network in the country especially those leading to the most visited tourists destination centers. This followed a directive by the president who was irked by the poor state of the roads after taking a surprise round tour on the roads. The president was particularly disappointed by the road that connects Murchison falls national park with Kibale forest national park. The president expressed dismay at the mismanagement of funds by the roads authority for neglecting such importants roads which are tourist roads.
The other roads under plan for repair is the road that connects to Bwindi National park which is the most treasured national park in Uganda where Gorilla trekking is made. The other parks are Queen Elizabeth National park, Lake Mburo National park, but these, the president was happy with the standards of these roads, saying that all roads should be improved to the same standard. This will improve on the tourism industry once they are all repaired.

Following the increased encroachment of the national park by the residents, animals in Mt.Elgon national park have migrated to Kenya. There is too much pressure on the park by the residents as a result of poaching, land encroachment. There are animals like forest Elephants, leopard, hyenas, antelopes in Mt. Elgon national park which contributes to wildlife tours in this park on top of Mountaineering safaris which is the main activity in this park. Mt. Elgon is one of the ten Uganda national parks and is famous for mountaineering. The park receives tourists from all over the world to come and see game and do mountaineering. With the encroachment of the park by the residents, animals have migrated to neighbouring Kenya, hindering tourism activity in this park. There has been recorded drop of tourists in this park this year compared to last two year’s number of tourists. Apart from wildlife and mountaneering safaris, tourists come to Uganda for gorilla tracking adventure which is done in Bwindi impenetrable national park.
