Wildebeest Migration Safaris

Wildebeests Migration in TanzaniaThe wildebeest migration usually takes place from July to September. Here, huge herds of mammals like wildebeests, Zebra and gazelles move from Serengeti, driven by dry conditions in the region and led by the lightning and thunder to the north, cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to reach the Mara's grasslands. During the course, they are tracked by elusive predators such as black-manned lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas, and crocodiles as they cross the Mara river, and circled by vultures as their journey unfolds.

The open savannahs provide the staging ground for the annual Wildebeest Great Migration making the Mara one of the natural wonders of the world with the densest population of predators, herbivores and birdlife.

Tourists often find themselves amazed at the stark reality that unfolds as the herds cross the rivers. Other land mammals include in Masai Mara elephants, topi, impala, giraffe, gazelle, baboons, jackals, water buffalo, ostriches, antelope and more. The river banks and water-holes accommodate hippo, crocodile and abundant birdlife including herons, kestrels, corncrakes, bee-eaters, hornbills, shrikes, sunbirds. The Masai mara area is also famous for the unique and interesting traditional Masai culture, the inhabitants of the area.
