Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is covers a total area of 188 sq. Km, located in Central Kenya, approximately 140km North-west of Nairobi, in Nakuru district of the Rift Valley Province. The ecosystem comprises of the lake, surrounded by mainly wooded and bushy grasslands. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with Greater and Lesser Flamingos, plus many other water birds being the major attractions of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the white rhino and buffaloes and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering nearly 450 species.

Accessibility to Lake Nakuru National park
The park can be accessed by road,156 km Northwest of Nairobi on the main A104 Road. The main gate is just 4km from Nakuru Town Centre.
The park can also be accessed by Air to Naishi airstrip located in the southern part of the park, just 12 km.

Climate of the area
The climate of the area varies. The temperature ranges from 20-300C and rainfall from 200mm 700 mm

Major features / attractions of Lake Nakuru National Park
The park is known for fabulous flamingos. It is also an ornithologists paradise with 450 species of birds, and it is Kenyas first rhino sanctuary. Other features include waterfall, View points; that is, Lion hill and baboon cliffs

Among the wildlife attractions include; Thomsons and Grant,s gazelle, the long-eared leaf-nosed bat, colobus monkey, rock hyrax, hippo, leopard, lion, rhino, waterbuck. Impala, striped hyena, bat-eared fox, wildcat, reedbuck, striped hyena, golden cat, black and white rhinos and prolific birdlife with over 450 species and up to 1.5 million flamingos
