3 Weeks Gorilla Safari - Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Safari, Wildlife Tours Africa

Day 1: Kampala - Murchison Falls National Park
After breakfast transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. This journey takes between 4 to 5 hours. Arrive at the top of the falls and marvel at one the most spectacular falls in the world. Dinner and overnight at Paraa safari Lodge/ Nile Safari Camp / Sambiya River Lodge/ Red Chilies camp

Day 2: River Nile launch cruise
After breakfast transfer to the northern bank of River Nile for wildlife viewing including Rothschild Giraffe, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Waterbucks, Elephants, lions, and a variety of Savannah woodland birds. In the afternoon, embark on a launch cruise to the bottom of the falls. For birders, the legendary shoe Bill will excite you. Along the riverbanks are schools of hippos, crocodiles, and many different antelope species.  Dinner and overnight at Paraa safari Lodge/ Nile Safari Camp / Sambiya River Lodge/ Red Chilies camp

Day 3: chimpanzee tracking in Kaniyo Pabidi Forest
After your breakfast undertake a game drive to the northern bank expecting to encounter Cape buffalo, Elephants, Rothschild’s giraffe, hartebeest, Waterbuck, Oribi, Bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, hyena, Lions, and if you are lucky, the leopard. Then embark on a boat cruise upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of the falls stopping just a few meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron”. Expect to see the toothsome hippos and crocodiles. Over a 17 km stretch you will be able to see elephants, waterbucks and Uganda Kobs. Some of the bird species you expect in this area include Goliath heron, hornbill, Egyptian goose, pelican bee- eater, kingfisher, cormorant and the rare shoebill. In the afternoon you may transfer to Kaniyo Pabidi forest for chimpanzee trekking. Dinner and overnight at Paraa safari Lodge/ Nile Safari Camp / Sambiya River Lodge/ Red Chilies camp

Day 4: Murchison -   Kibale National Park
With packed lunch, transfer to Kibale national park traversing the Great Western Rift Valley and verdant plantations of coffee, bananas and tea and arrive in Fort Portal in the evening. Dinner and overnight at luxury Ndali Lodge /Mountains of the moon Lodge / moderate- Rwenzori view guest house

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest national park Africa
In the morning transfer to Kanyanchu, the park headquarters, in preparation for chimp trekking. Spend half your day in the lush Kibale forest whose over 13 primate species including chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s, red colobus, blue monkeys, red-tailed and gray-cheeked mangabeys are incomparable to none of the national parks in Africa. For birders, don’t miss the Bigodi Wetlands for excellent birding. Dinner and overnight at luxury Ndali Lodge /Mountains of the moon Lodge / moderate- Rwenzori view guest house

Day 6: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth national park
After your breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park enjoying a game drive en route. In the afternoon, enjoy a unique 2 hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel between lakes George and Edward – this is the highlight of a Uganda safari to Queen Elizabeth national park (QENP). The channel is home to large concentrations of hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, waterbucks and a prolific bird life with over 550 resident species. Day 7: Wildlife tour in QENP

Undertake a morning game drive for early risers and predators including lions, hyenas, side-striped jackals and leopards before returning to their hide-outs. Other wild animals you expect to encounter include buffaloes, hippos, elephants, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, rodents, etc. Return to the lodge for breakfast and transfer to Maramagambo forest for a nature walk to the several crater lakes and the bat cave. Day 8: chimp tracking in Kyambura Gorge
After a morning game drive and a visit to the salt mining site at Katwe lake transfer to Kyambura Gorge for primates tracking including habituated chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s, red colobus, black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, etc. Dinner and overnight at Luxurious Mweya safari lodge/ Jacana safari Lodge/ Kyambura wildlife lodge

Day 9: Ishasha game drive for tree-climbing lions
After breakfast enjoy a game drive to Ishasha – the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth national park in search of tree-climbing lions in the vast plains of savanna grassland. Then proceed to Bwindi impenetrable Forest National Park. Dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma Homestead /Gorilla Resort camp/ Gorilla Forest Camp (FB)

Day 10:  Gorilla trekking
After breakfast undertake gorilla trekking in the lush Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. In the evening enjoy a nature walk to Munyaga River to watch birds and the colorful butterflies or just visit the Batwa (Pygmies) for their cultural performances. Dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma Homestead /Gorilla Resort camp/ Gorilla Forest Camp (FB)

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Visit this African depositional lake with its prolific bird life. Enjoy a boat cruise on the lake to its beautiful islands where the Bakiga communities will be organized to stage a cultural dance for you. Dinner and overnight at Habuharo Cottages

Day 12: Rwanda Safari
After breakfast, you can cross the border to Rwanda for gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes national park. On this day, visit Dian Fossey’s Karisoke graveyard where she lies along side the fallen gorilla – Digit. Later in the day visit the twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo plus the local communities.

Day 13: Gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes national park
After an early breakfast transfer to Kinigi, the park headquarters in preparation for the gorilla trek at 8.30 am local time. Explore the slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes in search of the golden monkeys and the mountain gorillas.    Dinner and overnight at Luxury – Virunga lodge/ moderate-Gorilla nest lodge/ budget – Kinigi /Muhabura lodge

Day 14: Akagera national park tour
After breakfast transfer to Akagera national park which is among the most scenic African Game Reserve in search of black rhinos, Defassa waterbuck, tsessebe (topi), giraffes, buffaloes, different antelope species, zebras, hippos and different bird species. In the afternoon enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Akagera

Day 15: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park
After breakfast transfer to Lake Mburo with lunch en route in Mbarara. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park. Expect to see Burchell’s zebra, Defassa waterbuck, Bohor reedbuck, topi, impala, buffaloes, warthogs, baboons, vervet monkeys, klipspringer, oribi, bushbuck, side-striped jackal, bush pig, and if you are lucky you may spot the leopard. Some 315 bird species including acacia-associated birds such as mosque swallow black-bellied bustard, bare-faced go-away bird and Rupell’s long-tailed starling among others. Lake Mburo national park is scenically reminiscent of the more celebrated lake Naivasha in Kenya Rift Valley. Day 16: Canoe Ride along Lake Mburo
After breakfast undertake a guided nature walk to the salt-lick area where most mammals in the park converge to enjoy the salt rich soil. In the afternoon go for a boat on Lake Mburo. Dinner and overnight at Luxury Mihingo Lodge/Mantana luxury tented camp/moderate Arcadia cottage/budget – Rwonyo (FB)

Day 17: Tour the Musambwa Island in Rakai or visit the Bigo Bya Mugenyi Cultural Site
Undertake a motorized boat tour to Musambwa Island in Rakai in search of the migratory grey-headed gulls and other interesting birds plus numerous reptiles that include huge pythons roaming all-over the island and not harming the fishermen on the island i.e. they are friendly to human beings. Alternatively visit the Bigo Bya Mugenyi Bachwezi cultural sites in Ntutsi, Sembabule District to witness the antiquities and artifacts of the historical Chwezi dynasty. Dinner and overnight at Brovad Hotel in Masaka

Day 18: transfer to Kampala
In the morning, after breakfast, transfer to Kampala and arrive early for your lunch. In the afternoon undertake a city tour of Kampala or visit Sezibwa waterfalls.  Dinner and overnight at Imperial Botanical Beach hotel/The Lodge Guest house

Day 19: A launch cruise to Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary
After breakfast transfer to Ngamba Chimp Island to witness the 39 young orphaned chimps being fed. In the afternoon visit the Uganda Wildlife Education centre. The boat cruise takes 45 minutes to access the Ngamba Island.

Day 20: Visit the Source of the Nile River & Bujagali Falls
After breakfast transfer to the Source of the Nile River en route exploring Mabira Forest for its big number of primates, birds and tree species. Arrive at the Source of the Nile for bungee jumping and white water rafting. Return in the evening return to Kampala. Dinner and overnight at Speke Hotel / The Lodge (BB)

Day 21: End of the 3 weeks safari

 This day is reserved for your scheduled flight by our back to your home country. We shall transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
