3 Days Chimp Safari - Kibale Forest Chimp Safari Tour
Chimpanzee tracking is the most popular activity in Kibale Forest national park. Kibale’s walks begin from the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre at 08.00 and 15.00 and lasts between 2 and 3 hours. The forest boasts of over 13 primate species and 325 bird species. Apart from the endangered chimpanzees which are over 1450 individuals, Kibale Rainforest is also rich in other primates such as the black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkey and grey-cheeked mangabeys. The diversity and density of primates in Kibale is the highest in Africa.
Chimp trekking itinerary
Day 1: Kampala – Fort Portal
After breakfast, transfer by road via Mityana to Fort Portal. This is a 4 to 5 hours drive through lush plantations. Arrive in Fort Portal for your lunch at Rwenzori View Guest House. Dinner and overnight at Kibale Primate Lodge / Ndali Safari Lodge (FB)
Day 2: Chimp Tracking
After a morning breakfast transfer to Kanyanchu for briefing before tracking the chimpanzees at 08.00 am. There are more than 95% chances of encountering habituated chimps – our closest living relatives. The park is only accessible on foot; there are no motorable tracks open to tourists. Dinner and overnight at Kibale Primate Lodge / Ndali Safari Lodge (FB)
Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala
After breakfast drive back to Kampala. This day is also appropriate for Kampala city tour in the evening.
