5 Days Birding Safari in Eastern Uganda
Day 1
Early morning after breakfast, drive to eastern Uganda to Mt Elgon NP. You will pass through Mabira forest, Jinja and Iganga having a panoramic view of the great Nile, Sugar and Tea Estates. You will arrive in the afternoon to bird at the entrance of the park. You will  watch out for Moorland  and Jackson’s francolins.

Dinner and overnight at Forest Exploration centre.

Day 2
Go for a full day birding in the park along the mountain bamboo trail a 7 km loop that traverses a variety of montane habitat. The trail crosses the Chebonet river, then ascends steeply in the southern rim of the gorge passing a number of fig trees that attract an impressive variety of fugivores. Here Olive pigeons, stuhlman’s starling, mountain greenbul are common. You will then reach the top of the hill, an open area with bracken and brambles. Watch out for Nightjars before entering the montane forest to search for Shelley’s green bulls, African hill barbler and bar- tailed Trogon. The trail then proceeds through the thick bamboo crossing the Chebonet River above the falls and emerges on the northern edge of the gorge. Watch overhead for mountain and Augur buzzards and spotted creeper. You will then descend via a series of switch backs to the Exploration centre.

Dinner and overnight at the Forest exploration centre.

Day 3
Drive to Moroto where you will bird along the way . Look out for birds like Pygmy falcon, Jacksons Hornbill and white headed Buffalo weaver at the road sides. Dinner and overnight at Moroto Hotel.

DAY 4
After breakfast drive south from the T- junction at darkness to see Dusky, slender - tailed and pennant - winged Nightjars. Follow the road  to the Moroto Seminary that runs around the base of the mountain from the southern edge of Moroto town crossing the arid , rocky slopes that are homes to the rare Hemprich’s Hornbill, long billed pipit, Fan- tailed raven and Jameson’s firefinch. You will continue past and around the church to the seminary throughthe impressive valley to search for the spectacular white - crested turaco. 

Descend for dinner and overnight in Moroto Hotel.

Day 5
Very early in the morning drive to Kampala. Have a lunch stop-over in Jinja and then proceed to Kampala.

Spend the night at Hotel Africa/ Sheraton Hotel.

End of the Safari
